Why did the motherboard stop working when I inserted another RAM card?

So many possible reasons. One is simply bad ram.

Does the thing work when you remove said RAM card, or is is busted permanently?

What make and model of motherboard, what RAM was already in it, what is the new RAM? How far does it get in POST (power-on self test)? Are there any beeps, or lights on the motherboard that stay on?

There are rare cases where a motherboard can take a full load of one kind of RAM and less of, say, double-sided, but this is rare.

What is it doing when you inserted the card? Are any errors popping up? And are you using different ram cards? Sometimes using different RAM cards can cause weird problems.
