CPU Upgrade

I am looking to upgrade the CPU of my computer. I have an Abit NF-M2nView motherboard with a dual core AMD processor. I am looking to upgrade to a quad core and want to make sure that I get the right hardware. I understand that with the Bios upgrade the motherboard will support quad core processors, but which AM2+ processors will work?

  1. Here is a list of all the processors that will work on your board.

Looks like an Athlon x2 4850 should work. Where did you see that it will work with a quad core?
  2. The newest Bios update stated that it would work with Athalon 4x50 series adn semperon X2 CPU's.
  3. Thats not quad core it says Athlon 4X50 meaning you could use an Athlon 4050, 4450 or 4850 which are all dual cores.
  4. In order to put in a quad core then, I will have to upgrade the motherboard also. Any suggestions where to start? I don't really want to have to get all new memory, as I have 8gb of 800 DDR2 memory.
  5. Ok that isnt a problem there are plenty of AM3 boards that use DDR2 memory.

    ASRock A785GXH/128M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G 69.99

This is a great board and can handle up to 16GB you really cant go any cheaper then this board. Any board cheaper then this the ram maxs out at 4 GB. And it also has crossfire support if you want to maybe run dual GPUs one day.
  6. I don't want anything cheap, although price is always important. If this is a good board, I'll give it a look. Any other suggestions?

Well with sticking with DDR2 you are limited but that ASrock board is nice. If you want to go a little more high end check this one out.
