  1. Your link does not show me anything. You will get better response if you list your parts in the post.

You might try things outside of the case first; conect the cpu, it's cooler, ram, the monitor, and a dvd reader.

If basic tests are OK, THEN install in the case and load your OS.

You should get into the bios first and look at all of the settings which should be defaulted. You might want to set sata to AHCI which may not be the default if you might ever want to use a trim supported SSD.

I always run memtest 86+ from a cd or floppy first.

    Load the OS first.
Then update with the motherboard chipset driver cd which comes with the motherboard.
    Apply all the OS updates.

Then install security and your apps.

Gateway may not give you a quality PSU which is important.
They also make money by preloading lots of trialware/bloatware. You do not want that.
16gb on a i7-920 is strange. It implies 4gb sticks which are very expensive. 6gb or 12gb using 2gb sticks is the norm. List the components here because something is fishy.
Gateway/dell/hp are hard to beat on cheap/basic systems, but for a high end system you probably can do better yourself.

Regardless, the experience and satisfaction of building it yourself is priceless.

    Regardless, you

Extended service plans are usually a ripoff. The salesman gets a good comission selling them.

I looked at the gateway web site, and do not see a 920 system with 16gb of ram, the most is 12gb. To get 16gb of ram, you need either a server motherboard, or a kit composed of 4 4gb sticks. 4gb sticks are very expensive . A kit of 16gb will cost $800 on newegg:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231309

Even if 16gb was correct, 16gb is not evenly divisible by 3, so you would be running in no better than 2 channel mode. Not right, something is fishy.

If you buy it, make certain that you get that 16gb in writing with the option to return.

The list of parts you listed looks good.
