im reaserching to try and build my own pc, im very nervous, especially since im using my hard earned money, and looking to many threads i always see people mentioning to be sure to check about standoffs, what is it? how do i check it?

  1. Standoffs separate the motherboard from the case. Usually looks like little brass thumbscrews that should come with your case.
    Looks like this

    The case manual should specify where you put the stands offs depending if you have things like uATX or ATX etc.

    And it should line up with the holes on your motherboard.

    It should help explain things on how to build a PC. Basically, a standoff is a special type of washer that lifts the motherboard off of the case and helps ground the MOBO to the case. Without them, the MOBO will shortout when you power up the PC.
