DDR3 with AMD build

In this thread, about 8 replies down, lowriderflow said "[snip]Then about $100 for 4gb DDR3 (no reason to do 6gb on AMD build)[snip]."

What exactly is meant by "no reason to do 6gb on AMD build?"

Amd boards have only 2-4 ram slots; 6 gb is good for 1366 Intel boards with 3 or 6 ram slots. 4 gb is plenty for most folks, but you can use 8 with 64 bit windows versions.

The board I'm using has 4 ram slots, has a maximum RAM capacity of 16g, and I'm using 64 bit OSs (Ubuntu/Windows 7). As long as the board and OS can handle it, there's no downside to using more than 4g of RAM?

No. But you may not notice much difference in performance; depends on what you use your pc for most.
