Usb mouse and keyboard stopped working xp

Hello,
hope someone can help. I did a system restore and my USB mouse and keyboard stopped working. This meant I could not click on the 'OK' to the system restore so just restarted PC. Mouse and keyboard not working, although the usual NumLock light on the keyboard comes on, but stays on. BIOS settings for USB are all enabled. Windows XP loads up OK, just no control over it. Really appreciate any help

Sorry, meant to say that the keyboard works fine when I need to access or change any BIOS settings so presume that it isn't a problem with the keyboard or mouse themselves
