Does one get any warranty with refurbished or used laptops?
I searched many computer shops today, looking for prices of used or
refurbished laptops. While the prices were reasonable, what
surprised me was the lack of warranty for any used or refurbished
laptop. A number of vendors, futhermore, told me that they would let
me examine the hard-disk for bad-blocks and check for faulty ram, and
that I'd be given a one-day warranty, at best, to test the battery.
Is that the case with refurbished or used laptops?

Major vendors all have warranties for refurbs. Many are 90 days. Some
might be longer.

Thanks. In fact, when I told them that I had met a vendor that was
giving a warranty with a refurbished Compaq piece, they were
completely shocked. And one of them even told me that if he found a
refurbished piece under warranty, he would buy it and sell it
himself. They were actually shocked.

When I write "major vendors" I am specifically referring to the online
sales of IBM, Dell, Gatway, etc.
