At that price including the monitor (which will eat $150) you should look at an AMD Athlon II x3 435 CPU, AM3 motherboard, 4GB (2*2GB) DDR3-1333 RAM kit, 500GB single platter hard drive (Samsung F3 or Seagate 7200.12), Radeon 5770 graphics card and a 21.5 inch widescreen LCD. For a case look at the Antec 200 with around a 500W Antec PSU like the Neo Eco 520C.

You could also look at the "recommended build by usage" sticky to get some ideas on parts lists.

Second dnd's suggestions.

Do you have an OS? If not, you're really not looking at much...

CPU/Mobo: Combo: Athlon II X3 425 and Asus M4A79XTD EVO $164 after rebate
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 2x2 GB DDR3 1600 mhz CAS Latency 7 $115
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 500 GB $55
PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 700W $60 after rebate
Case: Antec 300 Illusion $60
Optical: Cheapest SATA DVD burner $27
GPU: HD 5770 $155 after rebate

Total: $636 after rebates, without monitor, shipping, OS.

Yes I have Windows XP.

Ok. With that extra hundred, get the Phenom II X4 955 BE. It should be in a combo with the same board for about $250.
