I have a MS-7613-Vr. 1 and believe there is a need to up grade. What are the reasons I should or should not change from this MOBO, and if a change, what is a good replacement?

This link has all the specifics you need...

You will note that it will handle the i5 and i7 processors with LGA1156 socket at 95 watts.
You can also use DDR3 ram up to 1333Mhz non-ecc unbuffered.
Any pcie 2.0x16 will work for a video card.

Note that this a very recent mobo and you should be able to upgrade for the next 3 years without having to buy another mobo. I wouldn't waste your money on another mobo. You won't see any speed increases just by changing the motherboard. The amount of RAM, video card, and hard drive determine most of your performance.
But you must first consider WHY you want to upgrade? What's the problem?

Great question. I have had nothing but trouble from first receiving this computer. HPE-150t from HP. I built a good project fifteen years ago and updated it many times, and, I was very happy with it. I bought the HP because it contained all the same components I knew and trusted; Intel, MSI, SoundBlaster, nVidia, etc. However, no matter what I or HP attempts, it is blue/black/reboot, and I am at a loss to troubleshoot it any longer. It not BIOS or software, as I have formatted and installed Windows 7 Ultimate from scratch. The only variable left is the MOBO, I think, therefore my original inquiry.

If you are having that many issues, I would only keep the case, power supply, drives, cpu and RAM. I would replace the mobo and even the video card. Sorry you had such a difficult time. I will do some research if you tell me exactly which processor you have.

Okay, did a little research for you and here's what I found...

If you want to ensure a new mobo will fit, you need micro ATX so I'd go with Intel's P55 mobo which has up to 4 dimm slots. It's a hundred bucks, but most P55 mobos must have faster ram than your 1333mhz. So at least this way you're guaranteed it will work. Here's the link...

This will be adaquate as long as you don't need to run two video cards.

I would also seriously consider replacing your video card if this doesn't work. If your's has an ATI video card that is just asking for disaster. ATI gpu's and Intel cpu's are known to have issues. I'd consider an Nvidia gpu if the mobo replacement doesn't work. This EVGA gpu card works very good and is only $45 after mail-in rebate (which EVGA does pay out)...

Hope this helps.
