Why cant i see the hard drive on my modem

Hello, I have connected an external hardrive (WD Elements 2gb) to my modem but I can't see it from my laptop? Why?

  1. I don't know how you would do that or why. Hardrive connects to the computer with a USB cable.
  2. For some reason a lot of people refer to computers as modems. Particularly for desktops, they call the entire case the modem. I assume debman plugged the hd into their laptop, but it's just not showing up and they are referring to their laptop as the modem.
  3. Hello... depending upon your OS and security settings... you might have to allow the Drive to be used/seen in MY COMPUTER... CONTROL PANEL/ADMINISTATIVE TOOLS/COMPUTER MANAGEMENT/STORAGE/DISK MANAGEMENT... do you see that drive there? may have to assign a drive letter and make it active... re-boot.
  4. Perhaps your modem router's USB port is to be used to connect the computer to provide networking over USB for printer, but not network storage? Refer to the manual for function and specification.
