Hello,
I have a 2.5 yr old computer with pentium 4 processor. is new i-series processor compatible with that motherboard?

No its not p4 and i series are completely different

If you post your mobo model, we can look it up and let you know what's possible and whats not. The iX is not though as it uses a completely different socket.

Your best bet is to find a compatible core 2 chip

No, defiantly not.
In fact, if your computer was a pre-built (Dell, HP, eMachines, etc.), it is doubtful that it will accept any newer CPU.
You would probably be much better off spending $300ish on a new motherboard, CPU and RAM.

It could be a 775 P4, more info. on machine or motherboard .
