Portable hard drive very slow

hi there,i have a S2 600gig portable hard drive,it seems to be tranfering data alot slower than normal,i have formatted the drive but it is still very slow,is this drive dead,im not sure how to check...any help is much appreciated..thanks

Whatever the brand of HD is most likely you can find a tool to test the drive from their website. Most USB 2.0 drives should run around 25/30 MB/s when moving large files.
