Hello

Ok I have two laptops built, one with an i7 720 and the other with a i5 520. The laptop will be used for school work, such as documents, programing, and maybe some flight simulator.....

I compared the two on the intel website and I have come up with a few questions regarding the processors.

1) which one will be faster in everyday use?

2) the i5 has integrated graphics, but if i have an ATI card in the laptop will i be able to switch between integrated graphics and the ATI card (like the m11x can)?

3) what are (if any) the problems with these processors?

4)the i5 is 35w and the i7 is 45w for power. what will this do to my battery life?

thanks

Well they will both perform about the same in everyday task the I7 720 will only really shine when it comes to heavily multi-threaded apps but it is horrible on your battery. So if you just need it for basic everyday task like word processing and surfing on the internet for research or what not. The I5 should be your choice, the I5 will also have no problems with games depending on your video cards in the laptops. The I7 IMO is overkill for most people on a laptop.

That is something you would have to find out from the manufacturer most laptops you wont be able to add a dedicated card.

Wow that was a fast response.

That will help me with my decision.

I forgot to put in the original post that I will be using virtual PC XP pro. I assume the i5 will run this fine.

the ability to switch between a graphics card and integrated graphics inst necessary. I was just wondering out of curiosity.

The I5 520 has Virtualization so you will have no problems with that.
