AMD 965 BE system vs. i7 930 system.

I plan on going crossfire in 8-16 weeks, and adding another hard drive. Both the systems cost 1250...but because the amd is cheaper, it allows me to get a 5850 gfx card instead of the 5770. BUT its going to be running a 965 BE instead of an i7

  1. It depends on what your doing,

Gaming, the AMD setup would win as it has a better gpu.

Rendering or cad, Core i7 would win as that cpu had 8 threads to process data and the triple channel memory would give you the widest bandwidth to the ram for those memory intensive apps.
  2. An i7 930 with a 5770 = bottleneck (unless you don't game)

if you wait one more month you will have more CPU choices and hopefully better pricing.

And maybe some extra saved money as well. :)

If the i7s drop when Thuban releases and you (OP) save a little bit you can get a nice GPU to go along with the beautiful 1366 setup.

Or flip side maybe Thuban itself will tickle your fancy.
