Good Afternoon Everyone.

I see that in these forums overall people are very comfortable with terminology such as hyperthreading, RAID and so on. I'm relatively new to most of these computer terms and I'm looking for places where I can learn more about it.

I want to get to a point where I can get to these forums and help properly based on knowledge and experience. I'm starting my career on computer engineering but I don't want to be fully green. I understand some of the basics but as stated before, do you know a place where I could go to learn basics such as electric terms or even things such as all the settings on a graphics card?

I've gone to almighty google but most of the sites I've found they already assume that you understand all the terms and go from there. What are some basic terms that you'd consider primal? I'm already reading about the difference of Multithreading, Superthreading and Hyperthreading.

Thanks for your time.

Start with the Guide to Choosing Parts. That'll get you started on a lot of the different parts and basics. Homebuilt PC Buying Guide will start to get you familiar with what the different specs mean.

After that, it's really just researching specific definitions and such. Read a lot of the different reviews on specific parts. Look at benchmarks. Look at all the charts available. It's just a matter of time and how much effort you put into researching it all. You've already found an excellent source for information.

Hi all.

First of all thank you for taking your time to help me out. This site is a fine addition to my purpose, also in cse there is more people under my same situation I've found the following resources that have literally taken a huge cloud off my mind so far:

http://arstechnica.com/old/content/2002/10/hyperthreading.ars

http://arstechnica.com/cpu/3q99/k7_theory/k7-one-1.html (about old processors but still good as a basic foundation)

http://arstechnica.com/paedia/cpu.html

I've been using a mix of that plus good old wikipedia to double check on the terms that are still hazy.

Thanks a lot guys!
