My friend will be giving me his x4 965 because he'll be getting a i7 3770k.

And as far as I'm concerned, these things run hot and loud on a stock cooler.

So I'm looking for an after market cooler, preferably under $50, but I will go up to $65.

Main things I'm looking for:
- Silent
- Great Performance
- Relatively cheap
- Available at Microcenter

I would get a Hyper 212 Evo, but I have a feeling it may be too loud. I also want one of the pre-filled LC kits, like the Antec 620, but not sure.

The Hyper 212 Evo is not that loud and if it's too loud for you then pick up a lower db fan to replace the one that comes with it. As far as the prefilled units go they also have fans and some have two so which ever way you look at it your going to be dealing with fans of some type.

inzone is right on the money. The hyper 212 Evo should cover you, check this out.. These are results based on a 2011 socket but they should be fairly comperable.

Stats for cooling an i7 3960x @ 4.6ghz / 1.4v:

NH-D14
Processor: 45 degrees celsius above ambient
Motherboard: 16 degrees celsius above ambient
Fan Speed: 1290 RPM
Noise at 1 Meter: 28 dB

Hyper 212 Evo
Processor: 51 degrees celsius above ambient
Motherboard: 16 degrees celcius above ambient
Fan speed: 1800 RPM
Noise at 1 Meter: 31 dB

The NH-D14 is above your price range, it usually comes in around $90 but is a very nice cooler. The Evo is well below that price and has quite comparable performance. If you find the Evo too loud you can swap the fans out for nicer ones but then you're moving towards the NH-D14 price range.
