I'm buying a new desktop PC. Looking at a Dell, 4GB, 2.5GHz, Nvidia 8800. Is this a good configuration for gaming? I can go a couple hundred higher if necessary.

If I was in the market for a new gaming PC right now, I would probably want one as quiet as possible. Noisy systems are annoying. This company seems to make some high quality silent gaming PCs: http://www.pugetsystems.com/

Don't buy Dell PCs for gaming. They have very poor upgrade options, and their alienware series is overpriced.

Your best option is to build it yourself. It's pretty easy and the first time I did it, I got lots of help from youtube videos.

If you don't want to build it yourself, you should order from these companies:
Digitialstorm
Vigoorgaming
Ibuypower
Cyberpower

Dell is not known to be good for gaming PC's.Build your CPU yourself and you can enjoy building of your PC and you will get different warranties on different parts.
