HI,
I HAVE PRETTY MUCH SETTLED FOR "CORE I5 750"
BUT I M BEING OFFERED "Q9550" FOR 220$ ITS USED (6 MONTHS PRECISELY)
I OWN
LGA 775 BOUGHT IT THIS JAN
P4 2.8 5 YEARS NOW
DDR2 800 MHZ 2GB
9600 GT XFX

MONEY IS NOT THE QUESTION ,IT IS IN A WAY COZ I CAN GET THIS Q9550 WITHOUT CHANGING MOTHERBOARD OR RAM (AND MONEY SAVED IS MONEY EARNED)

BUT HOW MUCH PERFORMANCE WILL I BE LOOSING ?
GAMING MOSTLY.(CONSIDERING 1600X900 SAMSUNG 2033 TO BE EXACT)
I M WORRIED ABOUT THE NEWER GAMES ,
WILL MAKE USE OF FOR CORES AND
I LL FALL BEHIND IN MULTI THREADED GAMES

COZ CORE I5 WILL HAVE DDR3 1333MHZ AND STUFF PLUS GOOD CLOCK TOO.AND ITS A BRAND NEW ARCHITECTURE .

THANKS,

Not much of a performance difference in games between all of the top end CPUs, a few frames at most. The biggest boost to game performance would come from upgrading that 9600GT to something stronger. As you already have an LGA 775 system, if it does pretty well right now then just get the CPU upgrade and get a new system in a while. The longer you can put off getting a new system the more you can get for your money, if you can do a fairly cheap upgrade and get a system that will last you another 2 years then do it.

Please don't yell at us. It isn't very nice and some people don't like answering because of it.

If you are using the 9600GT, you will lose no performance in gaming with that CPU. The 9600GT is a low end card. Also, you only have 2GB of ram. For a lot of games at higher settings, that will not be enough.

If money is not the question, then get a new graphics card and 2 more GB of DDR2 memory.

The Q9550 approaches the i5 enough in performance for you to say, ok I don't want to save some money, there will be little to no performance hit compared to the i5 even if you upgrade your ram and graphics too.

You will notice a difference between the P4 and the Q9550 though.

yes there is diffrence, that is only if you get stronger gpu, however using 9600gt will give you the same resluts in games.

If you live near a microcenter they have NEW Q9550s for under $200.

If you are using XP 2GB should be ok. Q9550 is great if you don't plan on getting better than a 5870 before you upgrade your mobo.

If money isn't a problem then i5 is probably the best option obviously. But if you aren't using a GPU that is too powerful for the Q9550 then there is no need for i5 and a new system. *shrug (if you are using vista/7 then 4GB of ram or more would be best.

What motherboard do you have exactly? I would only think it would be worth upgrading to the Q9550 if you can overclock it to 4ghz and you need a decent mobo to do that. Make sure the Q9550 is an E0 stepping, which it should be if it's only six months old.

If you look around on forums such as overclock.net you can pick up a used 9550 from $170-$200.

The i5 750 is not a hyperthread-supported CPU like the i7 series are...
