Windows xp was working, now I get an error message

I let a friend borrow my pc, but now I get this error message when it tries to boot. "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.. etc etc."

Then it reboots.

Anyone know of a fix? I heard something about my bootcfg file missing and to go into safe mode, but it wont even boot up. Please help :)

  1. It definitely sounds like something was corrupted in your OS.
Do you have access to a Windows XP Installation CD?
  2. No, I do not have access to that cd. It is a really old computer like 5-6 years. It was fast enough for the internet. It has even been through a housefire, I don't have the cd :pt1cable:
