What software can I use to put downloaded shows on CD ? Will my regular old
DVD player (not in computer) play them on the television ?

Thanks ...

This is called a video CD. You should be able to use the same software
you use to create a video DVD.

I use NERO BURNING ROM with Elcard Moonlight decoder codecs.

I am fairly sure ROXIO can do it

And the DVD authoring software that came with my Backpack (Sonic DVD?)
DVD burner can do it as well (With the Elcard codecs)

In short... Most any DVD Burning software

Will it then play in your DVD player... I have one that burned DVDs will
not play in. And 5 they will

what do they do and where do I get them ?

I guess just burning a CD with Nero will do it in most cases then ... ? But
what I need is a way to compress, say a 1.5gb down to 700 MB, with a minimum
of hassle .... all I want it to do is compress as little as needed to fit
the MPEG on a CD

what does DVD have to do with any of this if I'm not burning DVDs ? (and my
source material is just MPEG on disk)

I can not help you with compression, though you can burn an MPEG direct
to CD and you may be able to re-compress it. The only program I have
that will re-compress a DVD file is DVD-SHRINK and it insists on DVD
files to begin with (either on your HD or on a disk)

One possibility would be to use NERO to burn to DVD-RW and then use
DVD-SHRINK to re-burn to VCD.

As for the elcard decoders... I followed the links in the DVArchive FA@
of course (www.dvarchive.org and follow the FAQ link) lots of good info
there. They also list other codecs and some other software. You should
read them
