Computer won\'t start up with DVD drive is Plugged Out

My computer wont boot when my DVD writer is Plugged out.. and it'll boot perfectly when DVD writer is plugged in.

Possibly an error in the BIOS.
Can you boot into safe mode? If so, it sounds like a driver problem.

What happens if you go into the BIOS and set them to defaults? Also, if the DVD drive and the HDD are both IDE, make sure the jumper settings on the actual hardware is correct.
