Issues with powering on.

I recently purchased a 650-watt PSU to replace my 400 watt which needed to be retired, I have most items plugged in, such as the motherboard, my fan controller, and a CD-drive. However, It seems, this one cord from my PSU is a good 3 inches short from where it needs to go, it's 4-pin, I assume that's what's causing it. How ever, I really do not want to send back this power supply, What can I do? My original psu's 4pin connector reached, is there anything I can do with that? I'm just looking for help.

An idea, Could I cut the 4pin cord from my older PSU and Cut my current one, and wire them together? then insulate with electrical tape.

Maybe to help a bit, I had seem to forgotten that the 4pin is for my CPU... Is there a "safe" way to lengthen the 4pin connector, Sorry for the absentmindedness, I'm a tad bit tired.
