Well first just like to know if my parts chosen are any good, or if better alternatives exist. At the very best I'm aiming for <1000AUD but I don't think that's possible without sacrificing the i5. But the thing is for me the PC upgrade is a thing I do once every 4 or so years so I wanna make sure it lasts that time period. Willing to choose AMD parts and would like suggestions on CPU + Motherboard and any other changes necessary.

well, its hard to find things on that cite, so here are some suggestions:

RAM: its better to get ram with lower cas latency, so atleast get 8-8-8-24, like this:

http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?cPath=478_449&products_id=124542

HDD: this drive is much faster and safer:

http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?cPath=27_44&products_id=124363

MONITOR: these are much better:

http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?cPath=46_206&products_id=122404

http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?cPath=46_206&products_id=120866

but yours is very very good.

I thought ram latency wasn't important if you weren't gonna overclock. But will switch out the drive, and maybe the monitor. Added some better sites I s'pose. I'd also like to ask what CPU and Motherboard would be suggested if I switch to AMD to save some $$? Hopefully AMD has something in plans to compete with the new Intel cores in the future to eliminate the need of excessive upgrades, but from what I saw the II Phenoms X4 are not that much weaker than the Core i5s?

*edit
Umms, on the P55A-UD3 spec page in particular (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=3242&ProductName=GA-P55A-UD3) at memory it says it can support 4x1.5v DDR3 Ram, but the OCZ one listed is 1.65v?
