I had a Microsoft Cordless Optical mouse, which I was not happy with. I read other users' opinions, including here on Toms' community, about the pointer hesitation or lag, and the wheel sometimes not working on a single-click. Many people recommended a Logitech MX700, so I sprung for one of those. With the MX700, I've never seen the pointer lag, but I have experienced the wheel issue. Has anyone else seen this too? Other than that, I like the Logitech MUCH better than the Microsoft mouse.

PS - Amazon.com currently has the MX700 for $63 less a $20 MIR.
