Ok, finally need to upgrade my CPU. This means buying a new CPU, new mobo and new ram. Budget will be very limited, so mobo will be a low end H55 , proly Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2V (if I go for the 550). As GPU I'll use the one I already have, ATI Radeon 4850, 1gb ddr3, 256 bit. So here comes the question. Which CPU would deliver better gaming performance on a low end mobo ? I3 550 with stock cooling, overclocked as much as stock cooling will allow, or the newer i3 2100 that doesn't allow OC ?

Yup, mentioned that in initial post. Would 8 GB (2 x 4 gb) in dual channel be overkill due to some bottleneck ?

+1 you don't need more than 4Gb for gaming especially if your on a budget. The 550 could overclock to be as good as a 2100 if you got a good cooler but even then only as good ish.
