So today, I overclocked my friend's computer through teamviewer. I managed to get his i5-3570k to 5GHz with 1.4v (boots with like 1.35). It seems stable as it runs HyperPi without crashing however, when I run IBT, it crashes within a few seconds. We also ran a few games and it seems stable. Should we keep it there or lower it down? Also, do you guys think if I go into the BIOS and change disable all of the power saving features and turn on all the features that help stability, it would become more stable? Thanks for any help.
Lowering the mhz is always a good idea since you won't get much of a performance increase from a few mhz and by lowering it to say 4.8ghz would most likly save a few years off the life of the cpu. The longer the cpu runs at voltage over 1.38v the more it will shorten the life of the cpu. As you have seen the cpu will run with 1.4v and be stable but the real damage comes over the life of the cpu and it will shorten it somewhat.
