Hello,I was advised to buy a intelcore i7 processor i7-930 2.80GHz 8MB but it doesn't seem to fit. What is the best quad procerror for the motherboard

You can use all Core2 Quad CPUs on it

If you live near a Micro Center I suggest you pick up a Core 2 Quad Q9550 for ~ $150.

I got the P5W.

Asus says that it support E8xxx dual and Q9xxx quads, but don't trust them.

A lot of people got trouble, because those are 1333fsb processor and the board does not support it well.

Your best bet is to get a Q6600 or Q6700 on the used market.

9xxx series 45nm quads are a bad choice for that unit. Those chips were released long after the board was released. As mentioned the 65nm Q6600/6700 is the best suited quad for the 975 chipset.
