I got myself a nice 2TB SATA Caviar Black by Western Digital not long ago (before the flooding hit thankfully), but I can't recall if it said anywhere whether it uses 3Gb/sec or 6Gb/sec speeds. I know the 6 is usually used with SSDs, but this seems like a pretty fancy drive. So I wanted to know what would happen if I put a device meant to run at 3Gb/s into a 6Gb/s port. Will it run? Will it run in any way slightly faster (like maybe peak at 4-5 Gb/sec?) Or will it just crash the mobo? lol

What it does say on the box is 64 MB of Cache, 7200 RPM and that's about it...

Solution
The port will not make it faster but it will run just fine, mechanical HDD will not max out the SATA 3GB interface but a SSD will.
