2) The answer depends on what kind of machine you have, and what motherboard ports are available. A very old machine might have only PCI slots, a more modern one an available PCI-e x1 or even PCI-e x4 slot. This would determine which controller to buy.
You would then turn off the machine, install the card, boot up, and probably install drivers that came with the card.
What brand and model of machine or type of motherboard do you have? What version of the OS are you running? And just out of curiosity, what USB 3.0 peripherals do you have / are you getting?
