Unable to reinstall / repair XP Home edition

Last response: in Windows XP

I recently had to upgrade my motherboard, RAM and proccesor from Core 2 Duo E7500 to Intel i5 3450 with Asrock H61 chipset motherboard and 4GB DDR3. I was running Win XP3 home edition on the system earlier.

Because of the hardware change, i wanted to repair / reinstall the OS. Problem is when i boot from the cd, the installation files start copying and then suddenly the blue screen comes with error and the system hangs. If I try to boot from hard disk, the system automatically shuts down after the XP welcome screen appears.

The OS cd from which I am trying to reinstall is original legal XP SP2 home edition Version 2002 and is the same cd from which i had initially installed OS on the same computer and later upgraded to SP3 through internet. The motherboard manual says "Microsoft® Windows® 7 / 7 64-bit / Vista™ / Vista™ 64-bit / XP / XP 64-bit compliant".

Kindly help.
