DDR2 Memory not able to Dual Channel

I got a new ASUS P5N-D motherboard and the info on making your ram dual channel is kind of confusing in the manual. I have two 1 gig sticks of ddr2 pc6400 ram and two 512 sticks of ddr2 PC5400 ram and in the manual it says to put the same type right next to eachother.

Imagine this is my ram setup on my board

1GB
1GB
512MB
512MB

Thats the arrangement it tells me to use for dual channeling, but im used to it being

1GB
512MB
1GB
512MB

I actually tried both ways and in CPUz ID it says that my Channel # is single for either set up


Am i missing something?

Have you tried reseating all Dimms?
