Hi There

Can anyone help with why I can only invite two people to parties, allegedly
its a graphics issue but I have two geforce 6600gt sli 128mb cards, so cant
think that this could be a problem. after installing latest driver it
allowed 8 people, but as soon as you exit game and restart it defaults back
to 2

My system as follows

AMD Athlon 64 3500X
1gb Ram
2 Geforce 6600GT 128mb SLI graphics cards

MTIA

A long shot: Is conflicts between those two graphic cards possible?

I am not at all convinced that having two graphics cards is better than
one. Not many programs are written to take advantage of such a feature yet.

Try using the cheat "intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims 8" and see if the game
does indeed slow down, hang or show any other glitches when you have many
guests.
(If you don't want to type it into the program, you can save it in your
userstartup.cheat file in the My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Config
folder.)
Actually this would probably solve your problem IF the game simply doesn't
set the number of guests right. But if it slows down or crashes, you have
a problem with Sims2 and your 2-cards setup, probably.

I have a 6600GT as well (though not SLI), and my belief is that this has
more to do with the number of resources the game engine has to track than
video capabilities. I have lots that just *crawl* on my Athlon64 3200+ in
"live" mode; if the game's paused (or in buy/build modes), zooming/rotation
is perfectly nice and smooth. Hence, the issue is not the video card not
being able to keep up, but the load being put on the CPU.

Heck, on some large lots, setting the game speed on the highest (with the
1-2-3 shortcut keys) makes the game clock tick at roughly the same rate as
'normal'. Again, even on these lots, if I pause the game and zoom/rotate,
the video card can keep up just fine.
