I was installing a couple of hard drives onto a server at the same time as I was installing a adata850w psu into another system. I accidentally used the adata 6pin sata cable and plugged it into my corsair hx620's pci-e 6 pin plug.
When I powered up the system, puffs of smoke came out of the hard drive. Did I push too much power through the hard drives' board, or were the hard drives defective already? I am assuming the former because unlikely to be two bad hdds, and since I plugged in the wrong cable, well...
Are these two drives beyond repair now?

Smoke is never a good sign. If they don't spin when attached to the proper power cable, then it sounds like they are dead.
Smoke is the end of the line. Unlikely the drive will ever spool again. Sorry.
Thanks for the replies. Fortunately no data on them, time to buy another I guess..
