Hello, I need help picking a new motherboard.

I have 6 gigs of ram that uses DDR2 sockets, and I am replacing my (rather) crap E8500 775 socket CPU with a AMD Phenom II X4 955 (obviously) AM2+/AM3 socket processor.

So I want to find a motherboard with DDr2 RAM socket and AM3 CPU socket.

It also cannot be too expensive, appreciate any help.

Are you looking specifically for a mobo with an AM3 socket?

If so, I think MSI was the only manufacturer to have released an AM3 socket MOBO with DDR2 dimm slots (also had DDR3 dimm slots too).

Otherwise you'll have to get an AM2/AM2+ socket mobo. Most of which are compatible with AM3 CPUs. (Assuming the manufacturer has a BIOS update for it).

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

As kaosnkorruption says MSI has the only one mobo AM3/DDR2 but the price of this is more that an AM3 mobo plus DDR3 so is better that u get an AM2+ mobo that support both DDR2 and AM3 without problems.

Here are two options that can works for ur rig.

1- ASUS M4A77D
2- MSI 790XT-G45
