Hd 5770 bus width

Hi all,
I am looking at upgrading my pc soon and looking to buy a Asus HD 5770, but looking at the reviews people seem to think that the 128bit bus width will bottleneck the computers.

Im looking to have a Phenom 955 with Asus M4A79XTD EVO, monitor at 1920x1080 and 4gb ddr3 1333mhz.

I play all types of games from Crysis, modern warfare 1 and 2, gta4, dow2 and so on and looking to play Crysis 2 when it comes out.

Just wanted your opinions on what to do, will it bottleneck my system or is it worth getting a 4000 series with a bus width of 256 bit and loose dx11

Thanks for looking

  1. your most reasonable options atm are the 4890 and 5850. the 5770 will struggle with a few games at that res (particularly Crysis of course); it's better oriented for 1680x1050. but you shouldn't expect any current cards to play Crysis 2 at high frame rates when it is released.
  2. Think this link may help.

I would say that if you have the dough to spare, then the bare minimum standard should be HD5850.
  3. Thank you both for your quick replys, like most people i will be on a budget but in the future i will be getting a second 5770 (8x/8x) xfire. I will not have the money straight up for a 5850, but i would like dx 11 but dont want it to run rough. would your opinion still be to stick to the dx10 cards for now for the better performance or go with the 5770 and xfire later on in the year
  4. Jyjjy,
thats perfect mate thats what i was looking for on google but could not seem to find one as good as that. both the 5770 will be overclocked if needs be when playing dx11 games but not got to worry about that for a while. thanks for all your help.
  5. Ya. Two HD5770 is a really good option. HD5770 CF has really good performances. Start saving money after getting the first! Also make sure you have a good enough PSU.
