Upgrading processor

if a motherboard supports a processor, should the processor automatically work when installed?

If it supported yes but you have to see if it needs a bios update. If a new processor comes out after the board was made they will put out an update so it can support so check you manufactures website to see if it needs a bios update for it to work.
