I want an AMD 800 series chipset motherboard. My question is: Will an 870 chipset motherboard perform just as well (overall) as the 890gx/fx with the 965be along with 4gb of DDR3 1600? I only want the 870 because it seems it is the only one that doesnt come with onboard video aside from the 890fx (i never intend to be using crossfire/dual video cards).

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thx for reading.

The 870 chipset is a great chipset if your plan on running just a single card setup. If you plan on running dual cards down the road, i would stick with the 890GX or 890FX motherboards.... so to answer your question, the 870 will perform just a well (overall) as the 890GX/FX motherboard when running a single card setup.

thx a million for your reply. i will be buying the ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard along with the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition and G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB DDR3 1600 (F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH)

side question: that particular board says that it supports DDR3 1600 without overclocking. do you (tecmo34) or anyone else know if i throw that ram i stated above into it, will it straight up show up at post as dual channel @ 1600 with the correct CAS timing (7)?
