G.Skill RAM with GA890 GPA UD3H mobo

Hi. Has anyone had luck with the following RAM modules on the GA890 GPA UD3H mobo, able to run it at the declared stats/specs? I was planning to get #3 since its very cost effective (only US$ more to move up from CL9 to CL7)

But Im concerned since its not in the list of supported ram.

#1 appears to be on the list but its a little more expensive, about $8 more. Should I just get #1 and avoid the grief? #1 and #3 are both CL7s but Im wondering what the ECO model offers more? (aside from lower voltage? - im guessing here)

1) 4gb (dual) ddr3-1600 G.Skill ECO (F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO) CL7 (8-7-24) ... US$122

2) 4gb (dual) ddr3-1600 G.Skill RipJaws (F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL) CL9 (9-9-24) . US$ 113

3) 4gb (dual) ddr3-1600 G.Skill RipJaws (F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM) CL7 (8-7-24) US$ 114

4) 4gb (dual) ddr3-1600 G.Skill Trident (F3-12800CL8D-4GBTD) CL8 (8-8-24) ... US$ 99.6

This OCZ Ram is also available for the same price as the G.Skill ECo, but its only CL8.: 4gb (dual) ddr3-1600 OCZ™
OCZ3G1600LV4GK (Gold Edition) CL8 (8-8-8-24)

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

  1. I have run number 3 the 7-8-7-24 RipJaws on quite a few builds both AMD and Intel and never had a problem. It seems like great memory especially since it was fairly cheap even before DDR3 prices have come down a bit here recently. You will manually have to set timings and voltage on an AMD platform but I have never had a single issue doing it.

The Eco RAM with the same cas is only 1.35v and should run much cooler and I have heard good things about it although I have not used it myself.
  2. #3 should work fine with the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H. Timings and Voltage should be set manually in the BIOS Setup.
  3. Just trying to be specific - it will work fine at 7-8-7-24?

On an Intel build you use XMP or extreme memory profile and it automatically sets the voltage and cas. On an AMD board you will have to do it manually but it will work fine. I just finished using that memory on an X3 440 build.
  5. Thanks guys. Last question, do your successful results include using an AM3 processor like the 965BE?
