Core i7 930 two cores?

Forum CPU & Components : CPUs Core i7 930 two cores?

Word :    Username :

I've been having problems from my processor. I'm not sure it this has anything to do with it but every monitoring program I use shows only 2 cores. The i7 930 is a quad core processor. Any ideas?

Check for bent pins in the socket.

Also is this a new build? Is it a new install of Windows?

CLick, start, type run in search, open run, type msconfig, click boot tab, advanced options, check number of processors, and then select 4 or 8. Reboot.

I only have the option of 4. Is that not correct since it's quad core?

I assume you're not running a BIOS that supports the chip. Check what BIOS you are currently running. Then go check if that BIOS has official support for the 930. If not update to the new one that does. You should then see four cores in the BIOS. If they are still not in windows I would do a clean install. Before you do that though you could try the msconfig/device manger route. Also burn a live linux cd in see if there are four cores.

erm? so what is a live linux cd?
never heard of that before
thnx

probably not the most accurate words for it, but the way I see it it's like a bootable linux cd
