Four months ago I built my rig with an I7 920 2.66, Asus P6T, 6GB tri-DDR3 ram(OCZ3P1333LV6GK, 1TB CAVIAR GREEN and an evga 9800gt DDR3 512mb card.

The problems is that two months ago one dimm of the ram, start failing so my BIOS only detects 4GB of ram and sometimes when I turn it on a few days later or hours it detecs 6gb of ram. I already set the timings myself, and try the defective dim, alone, in the six slots and it doesnt boot but when I put the two remaing dimms on the slot A1 and B1 and the "defective one " in the A2, A2 or C2 it detecs the complete set of 6gb of ram but in dual mode.

So I am pretty sure tha the ram module is wrong but I dont know about the mobo or the memory controller in the cpu =(

I appreciate any help about my problem,

thanks

P.S.

I already reset the BIOS and updated it

Um, what's your question?

You've identified that you have defective RAM. The fix would be to get working RAM.

the problem is that I read in some forums that the Asus P6t has some issue with detecting tri channel memory but the odd thing about mine is that sometimes it detects de full 6gb in trichannel but always in double channel. The other thing is that when I try to verify one of the 2gb modules it doesn not boot (I did it in all the dimm sockets). Also when I install 6gb in tri channel the bios detects only 4gb but the CPU-Z program tells me that I have 6gb.

I really appreciate your help

Hi,

The problem went on for a couple of months, until I noticed that each time I turn on the PC on the morning, it was showing the full 6gb but if I restarted, detects only 4gb. Also I notice that sometimes the mobo doesn't provide the minimun voltaje per slot. So what I did was to take them from tri channel configuration, and install two ram dims on consecutive slots and the third one in one of the remaining orange slots. This proved to be an effective solution, with the downfall of loosing my tri-channel configuration.

Now a couple of months ago I bought a new set of 6GB ram from corsair to do a 12gb ram configuration. For making the story short, it worked great paired with the OCZ ram, but some days after, it showed me only 8gb of ram. So, in some really rare occasions it shows 8gb of ram and when it does, I shutdown the PC for 10 seconds and then I restart it and problem solved. I got to the conclusion, based on my personal experience and some threads on the issue, that the P6T mobo has some problems in tri-channel configuration as it seems it cant provide with all the required voltage per each slot.

So for wrapping things up, if you only have 6gb of ram, you should do what I wrote in the first paragraph. Now if you have tri-channel configuration be patience and hope that each time you turn it on it detects the full tri-channel ram amount
