I play games with an e6600, 8800gtx, and at 1080p.

How many FPS / performance increase would I see going from a 8800gtx to 260 gtx? I think I can get a used on for about $100-130.

What do you guys think?

It may be a decent improvement, as the 260 is DX 10 compatible, just make sure your PSU can handle the added load of the 260 (I recommend getting at least a good 550W). The BFG GS-550 is about $50 on Newegg now.

Thanks IH8U --

I have an Enermax 620w PSU -- should be powerful enough. The 8800gtx draws QUITE A BIT of power, itself... it's a 90nm gpu.

Yeah the 8800GTX eats up the power, it was a monster in its time. You'll be fine. :)

um please research this, but if i remember correctly the 9800 gtx was a less heat producing 8800 gtx , while the 260 was just a slightly upgrade 8800gtx with the less heat tech from the 9 series.

So in therory i wouldnt waste youre money id buy another 8800 gtx to sli or id go for a 285

as youre basicly throwing money into a slight upgrade and for the price the slight 10% increase and 20% less heat produce ant worth the hundreds

1) necro-thread, check the date before you reply
2) neither the GTX260 or GTX280 would be worth it at this point
3) the GTX260 would be quite a bit of an improvement over the 8800GTX as it is a completely different architecture (G200 vs G80)
