$2000 All-Around Gaming PC Parts

Hi everyone. I am new to posting on the forums but I have been a closet lookie loo for a couple of months now. I am hoping I can get some insight into my first computer build.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: As soon as I finalize my parts, making sure they are all compatible and reliable.

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, matlab, HD porn, 3-D modeling

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: I have a keyboard, mouse, and speakers. I have headphone and Astro-A40 mixamp I would like to incorporate into a sound card if that is a viable option. I don't have a part listed for it because I have no idea which way to go with that idea.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: I love newegg.

PARTS PREFERENCES: I am trying to build a quiet PC that can handle top-of-the-line graphics and speeds. It doesn't need to be completely silent, but I don't want a jet engine in my room when I am trying to concentrate.

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe, I am new to that field of expertise.


Here is what I have come up with so far, it has gone as far as my Newegg cart but I have not hit the checkout button yet because I know most of you guys know a hell of alot more about PC's than I do.

Case: SILVERSTONE Fortress Series FT02S Silver Aluminum / Steel
■I really like the looks of it from the outside and it has a good setup for air cooling

HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

SSD: Intel X25-M 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

■I don't want a loud PSU which is why I have chosen this one. It seems expensive but I think it is worth having around for a long time.

CPU: Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Redline 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

GPU: ASUS Radeon HD 5870 1GB

MOBO: [strike]ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard[/strike]
ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58

FANS: Yate Loons Blue LED
■ How many should I get? I heard I need 4 120mm sized. I am not sure on the brand, from what I have seen these are fairly solid fans for cooling and quietness.

Any suggestions are welcome. Nothing here is set in stone but I have put a good amount of thought into each part (except the mobo which I picked because it has the 1366 socket). I would also like to get tools for cable management and maybe some thoughts on fans that look good with the parts I will have to beautify the result..

I think a 1T Samsung F3 is called for for the HD Porn that's the most important part

I think the rig looks good maybe a mobo with usb 3.0 ?

That's a Grate PSU BTW top of the line

I didn't think usb 3.0 was out yet. Should I wait for it to come out before ordering?

This is the version with USB 3.0. If you get this one you won't have to get an add-on card later (unless you need more ports.)

That looks great for future-proofing (albeit only a few years in terms of technology). I like the blue coloring to boot. As far as fans go I heard Yate Loons were great for price/performance but it seems like that can be dependant on which batch you get. I don't miind spending extra for fans if they are able to push a decent amount of air per CFM under 25 dba. Do I need a specific # and size for each fan depending on what case I use?

Yate Loon are good fans, especially when considering price, as they are cheap.
A highly regarded brand are the Scythe S-Flex, great performance and noise ratio, which actually seems to be somewhat on the mark, unlike other brands that, while what they list for noise may not be untrue, it certainly doesn't deliver those dBA under normal circumstances.

As to your case, from what I could see on Newegg, it includes the fans you need.

cheap is good, but I don't mind flipping an extra couple dollars for a quality fan. As far as heat sinks go I assume the Megahalem from Prolimatech will fit okay in the ASUS P6X58D Premium X58 and in the mid tower casing. I am not sure I can handle a drummel or anything besides twist ties to keep everything in order, especially as a first time builder.
