Can I run a system with a AM3 cpu in a AM2 board.

Hello, I have a motherboard ASUS M2V-TVM, socket AM2. Can I run with a AMD Sempron 140, sk AM3 in this mortherboard? Thank you !

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

U can see here the CPU support list for the mobo that u have and unfortunately don't support any AM3 CPU.

The link that saint gave you shows you which cpu's will work with the board you have, and the sempron 140 is not on that list so your motherboard will not be able to use it, if you select one of the cpu's from that list it will support it.

Click Saints link, and when the page loads, look just underneath the picture of the Motherboard, there are five tabs, select the one on the far right to see a list of which chips you can use.
