Hello!

I recently purchased a computer from my friend who no longer needed it. I decided to start a fresh install of WinXP because it's a comfortable environment for me and to remove any unnecessary files. After the installation, I was alerted that I was missing a file called, "ntldr." I've researched a bit on the Internet and discovered a method to solve this. However, my computer now restarts itself consecutively for a minute until I receive a black screen indicating that I had a missing/corrupted file: Hal.dll. I was suggested to re-install WinXP to fix this problem. I popped the installation CD into the disk drive but any actions such as entering the recovery console or installing Windows would cause my computer to restart. I'm really stuck on this one as I have been trying to solve this issue for about 6+ hours. I would greatly appreciate all the help anyone has to offer.

Thanks in advance.
