If the entire keyboard is not working then most likely a driver issue assuming it was working before you installed XP. You will be able to get teh driver software from the website of the company that made the laptop.
If some keys are working and not others then most likely you either have the function key lock on (Fn key on the laptop) which will make some letters come up as numbers as this switches the keyboard into keypad mode.
If that is not the case then there is a good chance that the keyboard connection is loose or the keyboard is faulty.
