Hello all. I hope this is the right place to post this. My daughter bought
a Sony Vaio PCG-NV170 laptop at Circuit City a couple of years ago with a 4
year service contract. The "Y" key keytop popped off her keyboard and got
lost. The key still works if you push the little round thing under the
keytop. Circuit City says that's physical abuse and not covered in its
service plan. Sony says a new keyboard (they don't sell just keytops) costs
$249. Does anyone have, or know where to get, a "Y" keytop from a keyboard
mfr or a junker NV-170 or equivalent for a reasonable or no price? Someone
must have a box of these out there somewhere. It seems like it should just
pop on. Please reply here or via email to rme999@yahoo.com and I'll send
address.
Thanks so much.
Richard

Your chances of finding the key are near-zero (you will have to be
extremely lucky). Best bet is finding a keyboard, or entire computer,
on E-Bay. It's highly likely that many models of Sony laptop will use
the same keyboard and/or the same keytops.
By the way, that price is really out of line for a keyboard. Even new
from the mfgrs., they usually are a LOT less than that.
