What does HT LINK on Amd have to do with performance

Last response: in CPUs

I have a Phenom II x4 945 on a Gigbyte GA-MA78LM-S2 motherboard and the HT LINK is at 2000. I popped the chip into a cheapy motherboard, and MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 and the HT LINK is only 800, does this matter in terms of performance, I was thinking of leaving the chip in the cheap motherboard as the gigabyte unlocks a 4th core for another chip I have and i got the chip with the cheapy motherboard?

Thanks guys,

HT speed if the speed of the connection between the CPU and the RAM. Which is completely irrelevant if the HT is faster.
