Office 2007 only installs on Vista or newer.

Wrong. Office 2k7 installs and runs just fine on XP. As does 2010.

Not that I expect the OP to ever return to this thread but what exactly is the problem?

What error message/s do you receive? (Please post the entire error message)

Interesting. I purchased a downloadable version of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007, and it WOULD NOT install on XP Home SP3. I had to install it on another PC that had Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on it. And no, I did not download a 64-bit specific version.

Edit: added the SP3 detail.

XP SP2 is listed as the minimum requirement. Been running it on an XP box from the moment it went gold until 2010 went gold.

I'm having the same problem. Running XP SP3 and I can't install Office Ultimate 2007. Error message is simple "Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 encountered an error during setup". That's it, nowhere to go from there . . . .

Make sure that you have the latest "Windows Installer". Last I checked it was at v4.5
