I recently upgraded from XPHome to XPPro and all went fine except the system
will not detect my modem? I have no dial-up networking and I don't
understand.
I have spent several hours using Google to no avail. In the back of my
mind, I seem to remember having this problem on a previous Sony and there
was a simple registry fix. I ca not find it now.

I'm sorry I can't help you with the modem. But I am trying
to decide between XP Pro and XP Home on a new notebook. What
is the advange to Pro?

I did the same on my PCG-NV170. Windows XP did not recognize my modem
either. I had to download the driver from the SONY support web site:
http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/perl/select-p-n.pl
