Hey everybody,

I'm looking forward to playing the new Aliens Vs Predator game next month, and I've heard all sorts of exciting news about how it utilizes the new features in Direct X 11. I was even considering upgrading from XP to Win 7 so I could get the DX11.

Imagine my dismay when I found out my current GeForce 8800 GTS 512 that I bought a year or two ago doesn't support DX11 : \

I've currently got: ((Sorry if this looks like a stupid format, I just didn't want to leave out any info that might be important))
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual with 3.21 GHz (6400+)
2 gb Ram

Could anyone please tell me what DX11 compliant graphics cards I ought to look into, how much they cost, and how big an improvement they will be over my current 8800 gts 512?

Thank you very much for your help, and let me know if you need any more information to help me!

If you have the money for it and your monitor supports resolutions of 1920 x 1080 and/or above then I'd recommend a HD5850, If money is an issue then a HD5770 will do just fine.
The HD5750 does support DX11 but is weak (ish) and really a huge upgrade from your current 8800GTS.

Make sure you have a quality 500W PSU.

BTW I would have thought that the makers of AvG would make sure the user can also play it in DX10, not just in DX11.
I think it will be awhile before we see DX11 only games.

Wait for Nivida's DX11 card, Fermi, they have added architecture to deal with the new code implemented in dx11. ATI 5 series cards take a huge performance hit in the DX11 game Dirt2. Maybe the next game will show better performance. Something tells me it won't.

Not all games are like Dirt 2, in Stalker I get more FPS in DX11, than I do in DX10 on AVG.

Thanks for the replies, everybody!

I know AvP will be playable even with DX9, but I understand if you use the 11 it opens all sorts of crazy lighting/facial expression options.

I think I'll just wait and see if there is a huge difference and/or if there are issues like you said with dirt 2. If it looks like the DX11 is working great, I'll pick up the 5750 or 5770, as my monitor maxes at 1680x1050

Thank you all again very much for your help!
